It has been a great emotion to open to fist tong of the special
limited edition of the Nanmei puerh. It is the achievement of nearly
seven years of hard work, to create this tea. A long journey to find the
place, an hidden an unspoiled place situated at 2000m altitude and
less than 10km from the renowned village of Bing Dao, to find the
partner who wanted to join this adventure, to try all the gardens to
find theses ones which have something to say, to find the right picking
and processing, define the right style and balance between tradition and
modernity and let this specific terroir express itself. It
finally have been a long work to create the right blend, a single
origin blend which is playing with the nature of the trees, their light
exposition, the seasons and the years. A blend thought as an artwork,
which not follow the market taste or try to be the "best" tea, but which
is trying to make a dream becoming real and produce deep emotions. But
also a blend made to play with time, the time of the tasting first, but also the time of the maturation, in order to create a tea which will evolve,
but keep the right balance with time...

Only 84 cakes of this special edition have been produced and pressed, based on an
unique blend and a selection of leaves that I carefully saved for this
project since 2014.

(A regular edition have also been pressed each year since 2013 in limited quantities, and are available for sell)

Un long voyage

Many people think that tea production is happening in Spring, running here and there among the tea trees, but actually for us a big part of the works take place in winter, when we blend and press the productions of the previous year...

When you realize that, in the old days, there wasn’t one tea road, but a wide network of roads, which didn’t only led to Tibet, but more or less everywhere, the tea ROAD becomes the tea ROADS. When you thereafter realize that on those same roads were carried a whole bunch of supplies, particularly salt, but also medicinal (or not) plants, and a lot of other things, and that among all what was carried by the muleteers, tea was quite minor, if not trivial, the tea roads become finally « the roads »… So, yeah, it’s crazy, a long time ago, in China and elsewhere, there were roads.

One thing people tend to forget when we talk about authenticity, is that a tea is a « taste » before anything else, and that it’s that taste that we’re looking for, that we expect of a given tea, and that has to be authentic. An ancient 7542, for instance, has a taste, a typical character, and has to have that character. If it hasn’t, we’re missing the point, because we’re not in the genuine character this tea should have. Once you get at this level, the discussion to know if it’s indeed a counterfeit we’re holding, or if this tea cake could maybe actually come from Menghai Tea Factory (and is thus presumed genuine), and could have been terribly deteriorated by a bad storage, is in my opinion completely sterile. In any case, what we’re drinking is than not, or not anymore, an authentic 7542.

14 years ago at the same date, a gigantic wave violently devastated the small fisherman village where I am now living in a part of the year...
Hundreds of people suddenly lost their lives, half of the village where 5000 people were living according to some sources, and most of the survivors left the place.
A family was living in that house where I am now waking up every morning, a mother and her daughter who luckily and miraculously survived, nestled at the first floor and sadly looking, by this window, at the street totally engulfed by the sea...
Life slowly came again here, Burmese fishermen settled in the street, new houses slowly raised here or there in the landscape, children and cats are laughing and playing in the street again...
Spare a thought for all the victims and families destroyed by this disaster.
